Another busy and exciting week!!

September 8-11, 2015

Kindergarten friends explored ways to arrange eight children on bunk beds.  Students had so much fun experimenting with the counting bears and bunk bed mats to show all the possible arrangements.

First Grade explored doubles and near double math facts.  They used counting bears in two straight lines to explore many different double combinations.

Second Grade took inventory of some classroom materials.  Students organized, counted, and shared their efficient ways of counting with their peers.

Third Grade explored grocery store posters to determine totals for each item.  Students shared their quantities along with their strategy for counting with their peers.

Fourth Grade investigated different strategies for determining the cost of a turkey for Thanksgiving Dinner.  They made posters to display their strategy and explained why it worked.  Students also made a free standing tower with pipe cleaners....FUN!!

Fifth Grade explored vending machines and how they work.  They solved problems and determined how many six packs would fit in the machine when it was full.  Students also wrote proofs to explain their answer and defend their strategy.  Finally, they worked as a group to construct the tallest free standing tower with pipe cleaners.

Below are pics from the week....Enjoy!
